Understanding Structural Drawings

You do not need to be an engineer. You do need to know what to look for.

What you are looking at

A general arrangement showing beams, columns and load paths, plus detail drawings of connections, padstones, and reinforcement. Each has a revision number — work to the latest.

Why revisions matter

Drawings change. The version on site needs to match the version Building Control approved. Old drawings on a builder's table is a warning sign.

What to ask your engineer

Where the loads concentrate, what padstones are required, and what happens if site conditions differ from the assumed soil.
