The five roles

Client, Principal Designer, Principal Contractor, Designer and Contractor. Each has duties under the Building Safety Act and CDM 2015. On small domestic jobs, several roles often collapse onto one or two parties.

The post-Grenfell regime tightened up dutyholder responsibilities for Building Regulations compliance. The principles are now seeping into domestic guidance and best practice.
