Fire Safety Compliance Tips For Builders

Fire-stopping, fire doors and compartmentation — the issues most commonly missed at first fix.

Fire-stopping

Every service penetration through a fire-rated wall or floor needs fire-stopping to the correct rating. Photograph each before closing up.

Fire doors

Frame, leaf, ironmongery and seals all matter. Self-closers stay on. Glazing is rated. Smoke seals intact.

Compartmentation

Where compartments are required, they must be continuous. A breach in the loft above a fire-rated wall undoes the protection on the floor below.
